FAQ: Questions about window seat cushions made to measure

Window seat cushions made to measure | FAQ

Does LP Polster make window seat cushions custom-made?

  • Yes. We make window seat cushions individually to measure. Length, depth, cushion thickness, foam quality, fabric and colour can be chosen to match your window seat. This turns a simple windowsill into a cosy seating or reading spot.

What cushion thickness do you recommend for a window seat cushion?

  • For a regularly used window seat, we often recommend a cushion thickness of about 5 to 10 cm. With sufficient seat height, 8 to 10 cm offers particularly pleasant seating comfort. If you'd prefer the cushion to be more subtle and flat, 5 to 6 cm can also be a good solution.

Is 5 cm cushion thickness enough for a window seat?

  • Yes. With a suitable foam quality, 5 cm can already offer good seating comfort for a window seat. If the window seat is used daily or for extended periods as a seating and reading spot, we recommend a somewhat greater cushion thickness where possible.

What foam firmness is suitable for a window seat cushion?

  • For window seat cushions, we recommend a shape-stable foam with sufficient firmness. Especially with thinner cushions, the right foam quality is important so you don't sink in too far or feel the surface underneath when sitting. The right firmness depends on cushion height, body weight and the desired seating feel.

What fabric is suitable for a window seat cushion?

  • For window seat cushions, we recommend a durable, easy-care upholstery fabric. Depending on your interior style, different colours, textures and fabric types can be chosen. This lets the cushion be designed to match the sofa, curtains, wall colours or other furniture.

Should back cushions be softer than the seat cushions?

  • In most cases, yes. The seating surface should support the body sufficiently, while a softer back cushion provides more comfort. Back cushions can also be finished with padding and jersey, giving them a pleasantly soft, high-quality look.

Are window seat cushions with curves or angled corners possible?

  • Yes. Besides classic rectangular window seat cushions, we also make custom special shapes. Possible options include curves, angled corners, slants and other individual contours. This allows the cushion to be optimally adapted to the shape of your window seat or window nook.

Are special shapes, curves and angled couch cushions possible?

  • Yes. Besides classic rectangular cushions, we also make curves, angled corners, cutouts and other special shapes. For more complex shapes, you can send us a sketch, photos or a template.

Can window seat cushions also be made for bay windows and window nooks?

  • Yes. Our custom-made cushions are especially suited to bay windows, window nooks and individually built window seats. Several cushion elements can also be made to match each other if, for example, the seating surface runs around a corner or consists of several sections.

Can I order just new covers for my existing sofa cushions?

  • Yes. If the existing cushion cores are to continue being used, we can also make new cushion covers to measure. Fabric, colour and finish can be chosen individually.

Can my window seat cushion be fitted with an anti-slip underside?

  • Yes. On request, we can fit the window seat cushion with an anti-slip underside. This is especially useful for smooth window seats and can prevent the loose seat cushion from constantly slipping during use.

Are the covers removable?

  • On request, we make removable covers with a zip that can be easily cleaned.

Can I also order matching back cushions for my window seat?

  • Yes. In addition to your window seat cushion, we can also make matching back cushions to measure. A softer padding can be chosen for backrests than for the seating surface. This allows a window seat to be turned into an especially cosy seating and reading corner.

Can I order just a new cover for my existing window seat cushion?

  • Yes. If your existing cushion core is to continue being used, we can also make a custom window seat cushion cover to measure. You can choose the fabric, colour and finish to match your existing cushion and interior.

Can zips be positioned individually?

  • Yes. The position of the zip can be taken into account for custom-made items. A sketch or a photo with the desired position is helpful for this.

Can cushions also be made from a template?

  • Yes. For complex special shapes, a precisely fitted template can be useful. On this basis, we can make the cushion according to the desired shape.

Can I receive fabric samples before ordering?

  • Yes. Fabric samples can be requested to help choose colour and material.

How do I correctly measure my window seat for a cushion?

  • First measure the desired length and depth of the seating surface. Then determine the desired cushion thickness. For angled cuts, curves, cutouts or other special features, these should also be specified precisely. For special shapes, you can also send us a dimensioned sketch or template.

Can I configure my window seat cushion directly online?

  • Yes. You can conveniently configure your custom window seat cushion online at LP Polster. Enter your desired dimensions and choose cushion thickness, foam quality, fabric, colour and desired extras.
For special shapes, bay windows, angled walls or individual window nooks, you can also send us photos, a dimensioned sketch or a template.

What cushion thickness is suitable for a window seat cushion?

  • 3–5 cm Thin pads, seat cushions, light benches, panels. Rather firm / low comfort – serves mainly as a visual accent or light protection, little cushioning of its own.

  • 6–8 cm Dining chairs, simple benches, close-fitting pads. Good everyday comfort – provides solid support for upright sitting over medium periods.

  • 8–10 cm Benches, smaller sofas, reading corners, pallet furniture. High seating comfort – pleasant give combined with stability; ideal for regular, longer sitting.

  • 10–12 cm High-quality sofas, living-room upholstered furniture, generous seating corners. Very comfortable – optimal balance of support and cosiness for everyday living spaces.

  • 12–15 cm+ Deep lounge sofas, daybeds, high-quality back cushions. Especially soft and voluminous – maximum comfort factor, ideal for relaxing, lying down and sinking in deeply.

Important: cushion thickness alone doesn't determine comfort. What matters is the combination of cushion height, foam quality, firmness and desired seating feel. A thicker cushion is therefore not automatically softer.

Cushion thickness          Typical use                           Seating comfort
3–4 cm                 very flat pad / decoration            rather firm
5–6 cm                 occasional seating                             good comfort
7–8 cm                 regularly used window seat         high seating comfort
8–10 cm               seating and reading corner                                very comfortable
10–12 cm+           deep window nook / lounge seat   especially comfortable

LP-Polster recommendation: for a regularly used window seat as a seating or reading spot, we often recommend around 5 to 10 cm cushion thickness. Especially with thinner cushions, a sufficiently firm, high-quality foam is important. The existing window seat height is also decisive, so the final seating position stays comfortable.
