What cushion thickness do you recommend for comfortable garden cushions?
-
For garden seat cushions, we generally recommend a thickness of 8 to 12 cm. Good seating comfort can already be achieved from around 8 cm. For garden lounges and especially comfortable seating areas, we often recommend 10 to 12 cm. For very low furniture or special constructions, other thicknesses are of course also possible.
Is 5 cm of foam enough for a garden seat cushion?
-
A thickness of 5 cm is suitable mainly for simple seat pads or furniture that already has a supportive substructure. For longer, more comfortable seating, we recommend 8 to 10 cm or more, as this provides noticeably greater seating comfort.
Are 10 cm thick garden cushions comfortable?
-
Yes. 10 cm cushion thickness is a very good choice for many garden benches, lounge furniture and outdoor seating groups. Combined with the right foam quality, this thickness offers a good balance of comfort, stability and appearance.
Which foam is suitable for back cushions?
-
A softer foam is usually used for backrests than for the seating surface. In addition, back cushions can be finished with padding and jersey to achieve a softer, more comfortable build.
Which cushions are suitable for both sitting and sleeping?
-
For motorhomes, caravans and campers, we can build cushions so they can be used both as a seating surface and as a sleeping area. The foam quality should be chosen to match the intended use.
Should back cushions be softer than the seat cushions?
-
Yes, in most cases this is more comfortable. While the seating surface should offer sufficient support, a back cushion may be softer and more yielding. On request, we also make back cushions with padding and jersey, giving a softer and higher-quality look.
What cushion thickness do you recommend for the backrest of a garden lounge?
-
For back cushions, about 8 to 15 cm is often suitable. With a straight backrest, a thicker, softer cushion can offer noticeably more comfort. The optimal thickness depends on the construction and seat depth of the garden furniture.
Should back cushions be softer than the seat cushions?
-
Yes, in most cases this is more comfortable. While the seating surface should offer sufficient support, a back cushion may be softer and more yielding. On request, we also make back cushions with padding and jersey, giving a softer and higher-quality look.
Does LP Polster make complete custom garden and lounge cushions?
-
Yes. We make seat cushions, back cushions and complete cushion sets to measure for garden lounges, garden benches, outdoor sofas, pallet furniture and custom seating groups. Foam, cushion thickness, cover and other features can be chosen individually.
Can garden cushions be made with an anti-slip underside?
-
Yes. On request, we make your garden cushions with an anti-slip base. This is especially practical on smooth seating surfaces and reduces the cushions slipping during use.
Can I send in my own fabric for processing?
-
Yes. You can send us your own cover fabric for processing. We handle the professional workmanship, but cannot accept liability for the quality or properties of fabric supplied by the customer.
Are the covers removable?
-
On request, we make removable covers with a zip that can be easily cleaned.
Are special shapes and rounded garden cushions also possible?
-
Yes. In addition to classic rectangles, we also make rounded corners, angled cuts, cutouts and other special shapes. For complicated shapes, you can provide us with a drawing, photos or a template.
Which cover fabric does LP Polster recommend for garden cushions?
-
For garden and outdoor cushions, we recommend special outdoor fabrics, for example from the Agora collection. These are designed for outdoor use and offer better properties against moisture and sunlight than regular upholstery fabrics. However, a sewn cushion is never fully waterproof due to seams and zips.

Questions about garden cushions made to measure | FAQ
Can I also order special shapes and cutouts?
-
Yes. We make cushions and mattresses with curves, angled cuts, wheel arch cutouts and individual contours to your dimensions.
Can I order just new covers or just custom foam from LP-Polster?
-
Yes. You don't necessarily have to order a complete cushion. We make both custom foam cuts and individual cushion covers. This means, for example, existing garden cushions can be renewed if only the foam or only the cover needs to be replaced.
Can zips be positioned individually?
-
Yes. The position of the zip can be taken into account for custom-made items. A sketch or a photo with the desired position is helpful for this.
Can cushions also be made from a template?
-
Yes. For complex special shapes, a precisely fitted template can be useful. On this basis, we can make the cushion according to the desired shape.
Can I receive fabric samples before ordering?
-
Yes. Fabric samples can be requested to help choose colour and material.
How do I find the right combination of cushion thickness and foam for my garden furniture?
-
Just send us the dimensions of your seating and back surfaces, the desired cushion thickness and, if possible, some photos of your garden furniture. Also let us know whether you prefer to sit soft, medium-firm or firm. On this basis, we can recommend a suitable combination for comfortable seating.
Is there a volume discount for larger orders?
-
For larger quantities, individual volume discounts are possible. We're happy to prepare a corresponding quote for this.
