FAQ:  Caravan, van & camper
cushions made to measure

Caravan, van and camper cushions | FAQ

Does LP Polster make seat and back cushions for vans, campers and caravans to measure?

  • Yes. We make van, camper and caravan cushions individually to measure. Seats, backrests and sleeping surfaces can be made to match your vehicle and existing fit-out.

What cushion thickness do you recommend for caravan and camper seat cushions?

  • For seating areas, we often recommend a cushion thickness of 8 to 12 cm. 10 cm is a very good compromise for many campers and caravans between seating comfort, stability and space required. Depending on the existing seat height, other thicknesses are also possible.

What cushion thickness is suitable if the cushions are also used for sleeping?

  • If the cushions are regularly used as both a seating and sleeping surface, we generally recommend about 10 to 12 cm. What matters here is not just the thickness, but also the right foam quality. This achieves a good compromise between comfortable sitting and pleasant sleeping.

What foam firmness is suitable for motorhome and caravan cushions?

  • For seating areas, we recommend a shape-stable, load-bearing foam that offers enough support when sitting. Back cushions, on the other hand, can be made softer. The optimal firmness depends on body weight, cushion thickness and the desired seating feel.

Can seat and back cushions be made with different firmness?

  • Yes. This is often a good idea, especially in a camper or caravan. The seat cushions can be made firmer and more supportive, while we recommend a softer version for the backrests. Back cushions can also be finished with padding and jersey.

Does LP Polster also make cushions that serve as seating by day and a bed by night?

  • Yes. We make cushion systems that can be used both as a seating group and as a sleeping area. When choosing the foam, we take both uses into account to achieve the best possible seating and sleeping comfort.

Are special shapes possible for motorhomes and caravans?

  • Yes. Individual shapes are often needed, especially in vans, campers and caravans. We make angled cuts, curves, angled corners, cutouts and other special shapes, among others. You can send us a sketch, photos or, for more complex shapes, a template.

Can van and caravan cushions be made with an anti-slip underside?

  • Yes. On request, we can fit the cushions with an anti-slip base. This reduces loose seat and back cushions from slipping – especially practical for daily use in a camper or caravan.

Which fabrics are suitable for camper and caravan cushions?

  • We recommend durable, easy-care upholstery fabrics, as cushions in a camper are often used intensively. Colour and texture can be chosen to match the interior fit-out. Different fabric types are available depending on the application.

Can old caravan cushions be completely renewed?

  • Yes. We can also make completely new custom cushions for older motorhomes and caravans. This allows saggy or visually dated cushions to be replaced while modernising the interior at the same time.

Can I order fabric samples before deciding on a cover?

  • Yes. If you're still unsure about colour, texture or material, you can request fabric samples before ordering. This lets you compare different materials with your furniture and interior at your leisure.

Are the covers removable?

  • On request, we make removable covers with a zip that can be easily cleaned.

Can I configure my van and caravan cushions directly online?

  • Yes. Many custom van, camper and caravan cushions can be configured directly online. Enter your desired dimensions and choose cushion thickness, foam quality, fabric, colour and desired extras.

Can I order just new covers for existing caravan or camper cushions?

  • Yes. If your existing cushion cores are still in good condition, we can also make new cushion covers to measure. Dimensions, fabric, colour and desired finish can be chosen individually.

Does LP Polster also make complete custom cushion projects?

  • Yes. We make cushions and covers for the most varied projects. These include, for example, sofa and couch, garden furniture, van and caravan, yacht and boat, seating and reading corners, window seats as well as individual special projects. These areas are also offered directly via our website.

Which finish suits my cushion?

  • Without padding
Clean, compact shape – especially suited to modern, clean-lined cushions.

  • With jersey
Protects the foam and makes fitting the cover easier – especially suited to custom cushions with a removable cover.

  • With padding
Gives a softer, more voluminous look – ideal for sofa, back and comfort cushions.

  • Jersey + padding
Especially voluminous and soft – ideal for high-quality comfort cushions.

  • Visible zip
Functional finish – suitable for many classic custom cushions.

  • Concealed zip
Discreet, premium look – especially suited to sofa, yacht, boat and high-quality seat cushions.

  • Strip method from 5 cm
Gives clean, shape-stable sides – suitable for seat, back and lounge cushions.

  • Rounded edge under 5 cm
Gives a flatter, softer edge look – ideal for thin seat and bench pads.

For special shapes, angled cuts, curves or special seating and sleeping solutions, you can also send us a sketch, photos or a template.

5–7 cm cushion thickness
Suitable for thin pads or areas with little space – compact and rather firm.

8–10 cm cushion thickness
Ideal for seating groups in a camper – offers good to high seating comfort.

10–12 cm cushion thickness
Suitable for sitting and sleeping – offers very good all-round comfort.

12–15 cm cushion thickness
Ideal for frequent use or as a sleeping area – high seating and sleeping comfort.

From 15 cm cushion thickness
For especially comfortable seating or sleeping solutions – very comfortable, but requires correspondingly more space.

Important: for motorhome and caravan cushions, thicker isn't automatically better. Seat height, storage space, table height and the later sleeping area need to be taken into account. What matters is the right combination of cushion thickness and foam quality.
